A rigid timeline for the Immigration (Covid-19 Response) Amendment Bill 2020 before it becomes law is as follow:

  • Immigration (COVID-19 Response) Amendment Bill 2020 is introduced to the House – 5 May 2020
  • First reading – 5 May 2020
  • Select Committee consideration – 6-12 May
  • Oral submissions to Select Committee – 8 May
  • Second reading/Committee of the Whole House/Third reading – 12-14 May
  • Royal Assent – 14 May
  • Amendments enter force – 15 May
